‘Online Mutants’
Installation
Computational, Photography and Sculpture
Online Mutants is an examination of the different forms people take, depicting identity in two realms, offline and online, both of which are always shifting. This installation brings into dialogue the questions surrounding online identity and performance.
By altering faces in the work through a mixed-media process involving photography, 3D printing, and physical computing, Isabella Blue probes the nature of the online self, how it affects our sense of reality and how we perceive others or are perceived in turn. Her work also speaks to the loss of ownership that can occur once individuals place aspects of themselves online.
This piece becomes a conversation about identity confusion, transforming the experiences and questions she grapples with into pieces that invite others to reflect and contribute their own interpretations. The project identifies and manipulates the shifts between online and offline identity, revealing how easily the online self can be reshaped, distorted, or reconstructed into whatever one wishes to present.
